1st Tee Fitness is a complete golf fitness and performance program. Our Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Golf Fitness Instructors improve a golfer’s body, enabling him or her to make a mechanically sound, repeatable and safe golf swing.
Our program is based on the principles of Mobility and Stability. Mobility is the combination of normal joint range of motion and proper muscle flexibility. This is imperative for proper mechanics and prevention of injury. Mobility allows for the generation of elastic energy between muscles and establishes a base for power development.
Stability is the ability for a segment of your body to remain unchanged or aligned in the presence of an outside force. Stability is created by a combination of three things: Balance, Strength and Muscle Endurance. The ability to keep one part of the body still while stretching and contracting adjacent segments allows a golfer to generate speed and maintain a consistent posture throughout the golf swing.
» How the Body Works
The body will take the path of least resistance. If it is tight in one area it will get motion from another area. If it is weak or injured, it will compensate when attempting to complete the golf swing. Our job is to ensure that it is functioning properly to allow for a complete, mechanically sound and healthy golf swing.

» How Our Program Works
Our therapists perform a golf-specific TPI Assessment to establish a golfer’s level of mobility and stability. We willdetermine what physical limitations a golfer has and create a customized fitness program to address those limitations. Our therapists take a detailed history of the golfer’s physical health, golf game and future goals. We will work closely with golf professionals to ensure we are working towards the same objectives. If a golfer does not have a golf professional, we will recommend one for them. We do not teach the golf swing. We will improve the body’s ability to take a safe and repeatable golf swing.
The key to great ball striking is to generate speed in the golf swing from the lower body and transfer that speed through the torso, into the arms and then into the club. A golfer doesn’t have to have a “picture perfect swing” to hit the ball consistently, but the body does have to work efficiently.
Our Program also uses sequencing. In order to create a repeatable swing, we must first improve mobility. We will accomplish this with the use of golf specific stretches and our Muscular Robotics Device. We are the only golf performance facility in Long Island to utilize this technology. Muscular Robotics will improve mobility faster than traditional stretching. We will then focus exercises on improving posture, stability, balance and endurance. By following this sequence, we will increase the consistency of the swing plane, improve the position of the club face angle, improve the angle in which a golfer attacks the ball and improve the ability to hit the sweet spot with every swing.
Once a solid foundation of mobility and stability is achieved we will then increase strength and power with exercises that enhance club head speed. This will allow the golfer to improve distance without sacrificing accuracy. This improves scoring chances and lowers scores. |
